Flogas pledges to cut carbon emissions by 20% by 2025

Launching Flogas’s first sustainability report

Marking the launch of its first ever sustainability report, leading LPG and LNG supplier Flogas Britain has pledged to reduce its direct carbon emissions by 20% by 2025. This is the first of many commitments the company is making, as it sets out its plan to become completely carbon neutral by 2050.

With a host of successful green initiatives already well underway, the new annual report highlights the impressive progress Flogas has already made. It also reveals the company’s ambitions for the future and maps out the next steps in its sustainability journey – starting off with a goal to reduce its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 20% by 2025.

“This is just one of many smart objectives we’re setting as part of our mission to build a lower-carbon future,” says David Taylor, head of corporate affairs and innovation. “We’re committed to making our business fit for the future, which means sustainability needs to sit at the heart of everything we do. It’s also why we’ve created a new board-level sustainability committee. Not only will they regularly review our progress, but they’ll continue to challenge the business with increasingly ambitious targets, ensuring we’re fully aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the government’s ever evolving green agenda.”

Flogas has already hit a number of notable eco milestones, including adding renewable Bio-LNG powered trucks to its extensive delivery fleet. “Whilst we’re extremely proud of the strides we’ve already taken, we recognise there’s no end point to sustainability, and there’s still a way to go if we’re to meet the UK’s legally-binding commitment of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,” adds David. “That’s why we’re now taking drastic action right across the business to minimise our environmental footprint.

“But it’s not just about us. At Flogas we’re dedicated to helping off-grid homes and businesses become more sustainable too. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) are the cleanest, most efficient conventional off-grid fuels available. In fact, compared to the likes of oil, they have a 20% lower carbon footprint and emit far fewer pollutants, so our customers benefit from significant carbon savings and better air quality. And for those with unavoidable emissions, we even offer a Carbon Offsetting Scheme. This means customers can offset up to 100% of their carbon impact whilst funding valuable conservation projects.”

Flogas’s new sustainability report follows on from its recent 2040 Vision: ‘Future Ready: Transforming Off-Grid Britain,’ which announced the company’s ambition to provide customers with 100% renewable energy solutions by 2040. “We’ve already launched renewable Bio-LNG to commercial and industrial customers,” says David, “and as we transition towards a renewable future, we see biopropane (or Bio-LPG) playing a pivotal role. This is a chemically identical, renewable alternative to LPG, which means it can be ‘dropped in’ to the UK’s existing LPG network, with no change to infrastructure. Bio-LPG sets a clear pathway to net zero for off-grid homes and businesses, which is why we’re actively investing in it as a fuel for the future.”

Flogas’s sustainability report is broken down into four core pillars: Climate change and energy transition; people and social; safety and environment; and governance and compliance. “This report doesn’t just focus on carbon and energy,” adds David. “Sustainability is much wider than that, which is why it addresses everything we do and everyone what works with us. Ultimately it has become a fundamental part of our businesses strategy – that’s the only way to true sustainability success.”
